Data Driven Business Models, a workshop at Ca' Foscari to help companies collaborate with global multinationals to give value to their data
A survey conducted by the European Commission in 2019, on an audience of almost a thousand SMEs, found that at least a third of these acquire data from other companies, but on the contrary do not share their own. Often, in fact, it is a challenge for companies to share their data and become part of a “data sharing ecosystem” with other companies, because they do not perceive sharing the information in their possession as their interest.
However, sharing data exponentially increases its value and can help companies to reach new market segments, adopt open innovation solutions or face common sector challenges with their partners.
The Data Revolution @ Ca' Foscari workshop will be a unique opportunity to understand the dynamics of new data-driven business models and offer participants the opportunity to rethink their business by exploiting a direct relationship with the largest tech multinationals dedicated to data management.
Venice aims to return to being central to exchange and commerce, no longer of goods, but of data, the new “oil” that companies have increasingly learned to extract and exploit.
During the meeting, which will be held at the Ca' Foscari University of Venice, in addition to the presentation of the enabling technologies and interesting business cases offered by Amazon Web Services and SAS Analytics, participants will be involved in working tables to discuss some frontier issues.
The organizers of the meeting are Pink, Promotion of Innovation and Know-How, a service of the Venetian university dedicated to entrepreneurship to promote technology transfer, and Data Valley, a research and consulting firm that has been accompanying companies in transformation and digitalization processes based on data for several years.
The construction of an effective and fully integrated data strategy is based on three pillars: the choice of a business model based on data compatible with the company's core activity, the timely evaluation from a legal point of view of the adopted strategy and the choice of the most suitable technological solutions to analyze and manage the amount of data.
First, it is necessary to adopt a business model that takes data into account as a resource to be developed, organized and protected, through which to internally optimize the use of information obtained from data analysis, use new data to increase the company's main activities, develop new products and services starting from existing data, or using new external data sources.
Secondly, the adopted data-driven business model must be framed from a legal point of view to ensure full application of the principles and rules for the processing of personal data of its customers, also in order to establish a relationship of trust and co-creation of value with the latter.
Finally, once the viability of the business model has been ascertained, it is important to choose the most suitable technical solutions to achieve the set objectives, in particular they are of paramount importance: the data organization and analysis system, which allows the company's data to be easily interpreted and to adopt a set of repeatable processes to extract value from data, and the choice of strategic partners that allow a rational digitization of business processes.
The Data Revolution @ Ca' Foscari workshop will be held on Tuesday, July 6, 2021, at 3 p.m., in streaming.
